Taft, Stettinius & Holliser LLP
Outstanding Small Corporation
2009 National Philanthropy Day
Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP’s beginnings stem from the Cincinnati law partnership Worthington & Strong, founded in 1885, which was soon joined by John L. Stettinius and John B. Hollister. In 1924, the young firm of Taft & Taft --- headed by brothers Robert A. Taft and Charles P. Taft II, the sons of former President William Howard Taft, joined the older firm, thus creating Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. The Tafts were known for their public and political service. Robert was a U.S. Senator from 1939 to 1953, and Charles was both a member of the Cincinnati City Council and mayor of the city from 1955 to 1957.
Fast forward to today. Taft has more than 375 attorneys and legal professionals, all dedicated to providing the best in legal services to large and small business clients regionally, nationally and internationally. The firm practices across a wide range of industries, in virtually every area of law, including: Business and Finance, Litigation, Labor and Employment, Intellectual Property, Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditors' Rights, Environmental, Health and Life Sciences; Personal Services; Real Estate and Tax. The firm has expended its base in Cincinnati and opened offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky, Phoenix and Dayton. Each office is committed to community involvement and service, much in the tradition of the firm’s founders.
The Dayton office opened in 2003 with six attorneys and has grown to 32 attorneys. As the office has grown, so has its commitment to the Dayton region through both financial and volunteer support of a large number of non-profits.
Taft Dayton’s partner in charge, Jeff Mullins, says: “Taft is excited to be an active partner in the development and growth of the greater Dayton community. Our attorneys are involved with more than 60 organizations throughout the region as members, volunteers, or in positions of leadership. They have donated hundreds of hours of service.”
Organizations supported by Taft include the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Art Institute, Dayton Ballet, Dayton Visual Arts Center, the Dayton Development Coalition, Daybreak, The Good Neighbor House, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Catholic Social Services, Salvation Army of Dayton, the March of Dimes and St. Vincent DePaul Society, Dayton YMCA/Camp Kern and The Ribbon Of Hope Society. In addition, Taft attorneys have given pro bono work or counsel to the Volunteer Lawyers Project, Legal Aid, Family Violence Protection Center of Greene County, the Dayton Mediation Clinic and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality.
